About

Picturing Care

We invite you to participate.

Picturing Care is a collaborative photographic storytelling project. Caregivers who participate are mailed a point&shoot 35mm camera and a list of creative prompts. Photographs are collected and published on this website as well as made available to supporting non-profits and publications. Founded by photojournalist Cheney Orr and supported by the Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation, Picturing Care is dedicated to increasing visibility of family caregiving and drawing attention to what is often a hole in our healthcare system. All while handing over narrative control directly to caregivers.

The Photographs

Caregiver stories will be shared throughout 2021. Click below to view the stories!

SHARE YOUR STORY

If you are currently a family caregiver and would like to participate, please request a camera. Sharing our own stories has power. The power to reach people who may feel isolated in their experiences, the power to grow and heal ourselves, the power to educate others, and even the power to contribute to social change.
